Lakshmi Gopalaswamy is the actress who won the Kerala State Film Award as a Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the Malayalam film Arayannangalude Veedu opposite actor Mammootty.

Lakshmi Gopalaswamy was born on 7th January in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. She is an excellent Bharathanatyam dancer and started performing at the age of 12. At a  young age she won a renowned Madras Music Academy’s MGR Award. She was the first person from Karnataka to receive that award. Dr. Uma Gopalaswamy is her mother who has a PhD in Carnatic music. Lakshmi holds a Master’s Degree in Women’s Studies.

The award winning Arayannegalude Veedu (2000) was her debut film. In director Sathyan Anthikad's Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal (2000), she was paired up with actor Jayaram. The actress has two famous classical dance numbers in this movie. In Achaneyanenikkishtam (2001), Keerthi Chakra (2006), and Bhramaram (2009), she acted with actor Mohanlal. Keerthi Chakra is a story about army commandos and their struggle.

Some of her other movies are: Vamanapuram Bus Route (2004), Boy Friend (2005), Paradesi (2007), and Paranju Theeratha Visheshangal (2007). The actress has bagged the best actress awards for her acting in Pardesi and Thaniye. Bhramaram (2009) was her most recent release starring Bhumika Chawla, Mohanlal and Suresh Menon.

Lakshmi was recognised by the Atlas Film Critics with a Best Actress award for the movies Pardesi and Thaniye.

After acting in a few of Malayalam, Kannada, and Tamil movies Lakshmi will soon be seen in a Hindi movie, Dhuan. Amitabh Dayal, Padmini Kolhapuri, Rati Agnihotri, and Raj Babbar are also a part of this movie. Lakshmi will appear as a journalist here.

The actress has judged a dance show named Vodafone Thakadhimi on Asianet. It is said to be one of the biggest dance shows on Malayalam Television. Vineeth and Gopika Sharma were her co-judges on this show.
